This unusual project will convert
a 1961 Mercedes 180 D (Diesel) 4 Door Sedan to a "Sleeper Street Rod" titled "BENZILLA". The project involves removing the
horribly under-powered diesel power plant and it's manual transmission; make room for a new 350 HP Chevrolet Crate Motor and
Chevrolet 700R4 transmission by cutting out the fire wall and floor pan; fabricate and weld in new motor mounts and transmission
mount; remove old diesel fuel tank; install new gasoline tank; install dual exhaust system; install new ignition system; fabricate
and install new fire wall and floor pan; repaint car to original black color; install new upholstery. The body has some rust
spots and minor dents; all of which will be corrected before final paint job. NOTE: This type of vehicle was used extensively
all over the world as a taxi. Not sure of the history of this vehicle. It was purchased about 2 1/2 years ago at the GOOD
GUYS SHOW in Scottsdale, AZ. Some papers and receipts in the vehicle showed it was in New Jersey most of its life. I drove
the car to Lake Havasu City, AZ. To my pleasant surprise, the car rides extremely well and is a solid car......as all German
made vehicles are famous for. Time to complete project will take about one year, so visit B&B web site often to see build
results over time.
